Providing the Perfect Solution for a Livery Yard Arena
A good quality riding arena is an essential requirement for most livery yards, providing horse owners with space to exercise their horse in any weather and providing space for schooling, dressage and jumping practice. A yard with a high quality, well-maintained arena space has a competitive advantage and is more likely to retain its customers over a longer period of time.
The Challenge
Our client, a busy livery yard owner, approached us because their old riding arena was no longer suitable. The arena had a sand base which had become hard and compacted, and none of the livery owners were happy to use the space.
They needed to replace their old arena surface with something modern, fresh and suitable for a variety of equestrian activity all year round.
The owners of the yard were already familiar with our work and were keen to ask us to complete their installation. They knew we had a great reputation as a genuine equestrian surface manufacturer – lots of our ‘competitors’ offer cheap recycled materials for arena surfaces whose products are poor quality and fall far short of the quality and precision required of a good quality surface which brings out the best in horse and rider.

Our Solution
Before starting work we provided a selection of samples of our three different riding surfaces and explained the benefits of our products in detail. We explored their requirements and talked about the expectations and requirements of their livery yard clientele. As we often find, any one of our three products would have been suitable, providing low maintenance, long-term solutions which provide a robust, stable and resilient surface. The final choice was our equestrian riding chip product, manufactured from repurposed carpet tiles and ideal for sustained heavy usage. This hard-wearing material is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, aids drainage and is frost-free making it the perfect option.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to Equipro for changing our Menage around! From sand that you could hardly ride on in the winter as it was too wet or rock hard. To this! We ride on this surface, turnout on it and it's just fab! On cold icy morning's we can still ride as it doesn't freeze over. All we do is use small harrows now and again to level it out really easy maintenance. I would highly recommend.
The Results
The yard owners and their customers are all delighted with the results of this installation. They were out enjoying the upgraded facility almost immediately and the arena has once again become the focus of attention for many of the owners on the yard. There is no longer any risk of horses becoming lame and the long-lasting surface will provide many years of use, representing a great investment and enhancing the overall service offered by the business.
